Advantages of the region
The Region has a solid industrial tradition, and its industries have been largely restructured. There is a dynamic electronic sector, and privatised shipyards building modern ships.
Two international seaports of Gdansk and Gdynia ensure easy transport connections with the whole of Europe and with distant overseas countries.
A big oil terminal is in the Port Pólnocny (Northern Port) of Gdansk. There is also a Customs Free Zone in the Port of Gdansk. Other transportation advantages include the new international passenger and cargo airport at Rebiechowo, near Gdansk.
There is also a good supply of agricultural raw materials, since the area has some of the best agricultural land in Poland.
The area has a good educational infrastructure with several High Schools in addition to Technical University and University of Gdansk. Currently, there are about 53,000 people studying and about 7,000 graduates annually.
All the most important Polish banks, and several foreign ones as: Citibank Poland, ING Bank N.V., Raiffeisen Centrobank, Bank Austria Creditanstalt Poland S.A., and GE Capital Bank.

Profile of the Pomeranian Special Economic Zones
The Pomeranian Special Economic Zone occupies a 387.82 ha site.
Special Economic Zone "Zarnowiec"
This Zone is located on one, 197.01 ha, site. The Zone provides full technical infrastructure, including roads, railways, sewage treatment facilities, water, gas and electricity.

Special Economic Zone
"Tczew"
This Zone is located on two areas: Tczew Czatkowy with an area of 63.8 ha and Tczew Rokitki with an area of 102.26 ha. Both sites provide full technical infrastructure.

Close to the Zone situated will be ŻARNOWIECKA ELEKTROWNIA GAZOWA S.A - gas fired electricity power station due to commence activities in 2003.
Special Economic Zone "Tczew"
Tax exemptions
An economic entity in the Zone may enjoy the benefit of only one type of exemption; the entity declares the type of exemption it intends to claim in the given tax year, after which a different form of exemption also available in the Zone may be claimed.
1. Corporate income tax exemptions are available according to the following methods:
- Investments of at least 1 million Euro,
- Employment of at least 100 workers.
In both cases the entire amount of corporate income tax is exempt for 10 years, and 50% thereafter until the end of the Zone's lifespan.
2. For investors not fulfilling any of the above criteria:
- If the investment outlay is below 1 million Euro, corporate income tax exemption is due on the amount of investment outlay,
- If the workforce is below 100 people, there is a 10% corporate income tax exemption available on every 10 persons employed.
3. For investors not enjoying the exemptions described above:
- Higher depreciation rates may be applied to fixed assets, and outlays on intangible and legal assets may be threatened as costs of earnings.
4. All investors qualify for property tax exemptions throughout the entire lifespan of the Zone.
Preferred branches of economic activities in the Zones
Development of new high-tech products and new technologies in the following branches:
- Electro-mechanical,
- Electronic,
- Production of new building materials and systems,
- Other branches (e.g. biotechnologies, advanced pharmaceutical technologies, advanced production technologies of components for farm-products processing and food processing, etc.)
- Pharmaceuticals
- Fruit and vegetables processing
- Processing of agricultural products for industrial use.
The Zone is searching for investors who will develop sub-contracting agreements with small and medium size industrial firms situated in the vicinity of the Zone.
