Profile of the region

Mielec is a well developed powiat (county) town in the Podkarpackie province of South Eastern Poland. Mielec is situated 270 km from Warsaw and only about 150 km from Ukrainian and Slovakian borders, in a region of strong industrial traditions. Another advantage of Mielec is its available infrastructure for transportation and communication, which includes: convenient road connections in all directions, rail spur and sidings connecting also to wide-gauge rail spur designed for transport to Ukraine, Russia and China, local airport with landing allowables to support both passenger and cargo services. The Mielec Powiat (county) includes the town of Mielec which occupies an area of 46 sq km and consists of 10 boroughs. The Powiat's population is 134,000 of whom 65,000 are the residents of Mielec itself.

Mielec is known as an industrial centre, especially as a producer of high quality aviation products and automotive components. The long tradition of industrial activity has created a large, highly experienced workforce that is capable of meeting and exceeding global standars in almost any industry. The experienced workforce is capable of adapting to new jobs and requirements with little or no training. Mielec also boasts a highly qualified managerial staff and well-developed education and training base, ranging from elementary and vacational schools to university branches and colleges in business, management, engineering, technology and computer science. University and college graduates can also be recruited from Business School of Economy and Management launched in Mielec in 1999, as well as from academic centres in Kraków, Lublin or nearby Rzeszów. Independent of the above mentioned base in Mielec, there are a number of organisations which provide training aimed at raising the qualifications or enabling professional retraining for the unemployed.

The Practical Training Centre of Mielec has been running since September 1997, providing tailor-made courses for local employers. There are also numerous foreign language schools in the area. Mielec has many institutions, which make commercial activity easier, like: 3 telephone services providers, large train and bus depots, municipal bus transportation, branch offices of 10 Polish banks and other business service providers. The area surrounding Mielec has many facilities for rest and recreation, as well as many venues for business meetings and conferences (including historical castles with appropriately adapted facilities). Visitors can count on accommodation in local hotels. Individuals planning longer stay can rent an apartment or town house through one of the city's real estate agencies. Mielec has also land available for development including single family homes for those interested in relocating to Mielec.
